Trends might come and go, but Mean Girls is forever. Bebe Wood, who stars as Gretchen Wieners in the 2024 adaptation of the hit Broadway production, has some thoughts on today’s fashion trends—from no-show socks to platform Uggs.
First off, her most hated trend: No-show socks. “Ok, let’s talk about it, I hate them,” Wood said. “They just get like, stuck in my shoe. They fall off my heel and I get really upset. Not for me. Gretchen does wear no-show socks but I think because of my hatred for them, somewhere through filming Gretchen stopped wearing them because I don’t like them, and then she started wearing cute little ankle socks with frills.”
What about platform Uggs? They’re a hit with Gretchen. In fact, Wood recalled wearing a hot pink pair that, while “fabulous”, wouldn’t be for her personally and instead offered a substitution. “I love wearing big heavy boots, military boots, Dr. Martens for every season, even with little skirts and sun dresses. … I don’t think Gretchen owns a pair of Docs, or any boots for that matter.”
