Met Gala 2024 Outfits: Live Updates From the Red Carpet

It’s the first Monday in May and you hay have noticed that over the past week, anyone who’s anyone has been trickling into New York City. We can’t always predict 100% certainty, but we’ll always start guessing who’s showing up to fashion’s biggest night out and who’s going to be remembered for their Met Gala 2024 outfits.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual fundraiser for the Costume Institute takes the world by storm with celebs wearing elegant outfits and gracing the steps that lead down Fifth Avenue. However, not everyone can attain an invite just like that  Since 1995, the guest list and table seating chart have been curated by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, with only around 600 people making the list each year. This year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” celebrates the opening of the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Per Vogue, the exhibition celebrates clothes that are fragile and delicate that they are difficult, or even impossible to wear again. This makes for high anticipation in terms of what’s coming up the steps of the Met tonight.

The obvious inspo is the “gardens” part of the dress code, but the more interesting part is “time.” Sleeping Beauties honors the painstaking labor of archiving clothes. Things that were designed with delicacy.
